Kate's Video Toolkit 4.414

Kate's Video Toolkit Editor's Review

'Kate's Video Toolkit' is supposed to be an all-in-one audio/video solution. This program features a player for your video files, a converter for some of the most important video file formats (AVI, MPEG, WMV, QT, DVD, VCD, and SVCD). In the 'Cut' tab, you can cut from the beginning and the end of the video files. In the next tab, called 'Join', you can join two or more video files. The 'Mix' feature, although I wasn't able to figure what it can do until I read the hint, it mixes a video file with an audio file. Therefore, if you have a video file and you want to add background music, this might be the right tool for you. The last feature is the 'Transition', where you can add 3D transitions to your video files, while using a foreground and a background image or another video file.

While testing the program, I've noticed that it's very unstable. It crashes a lot and when you least expect it. As converting software, it works very good and pretty fast. Even as a cutting program, it's good and you can easily cut the beginning and the end of your movies. However, I'm a little disappointed that you can't cut inside the file. That would be very helpful.

Pluses:

Drawbacks / flaws: It has some stability issues.

In conclusion: It's good that there are producers that consider to create toolkits and not many little programs that each do only one these things. I hope that in the next release the stability issues will be solved. I look forward to that.
